Nearly six years ago, just as the world went into the first pandemic lockdown, me and my oldest friend Martin, a recovering alcoholic who now works in rehab, conceived on an idea. We thought it would be fun to start a podcast that addressed the topics of addiction, recovery and our almost fifty year friendship, considering what it means to show compassion for oneself and others, and how we cope with the change, loss and repair that is embedded in trying to maintain stable mental health.
We also thought it was a good opportunity to reminisce on funny experiences we've had and sometimes take a lighter view of topics that are, by their very nature, often hard work.
What emerged superseded our wildest expectations and has grown into a beloved project that has attracted tens of thousands of downloads from all over the world.
Essentially, it's a podcast about addiction, recovery, mental health, and friendship. But it's also light-hearted, offers insight to my philosophy as a therapist and we hope it's an accessible and informative resource for anyone touched by addiction or mental health issues more broadly (i.e everyone).
You can find a new episode on fortnightly Thursdays (mostly) on Spotify, iTunes, or wherever you get your podcasts, or you can listen to every episode (all 250+ of them) right here at the bottom of this page.
